Fredericksburg is one of Texas's most popular tourist destinations, and with good reason. Settled by mostly liberal, educated Germans around the mid-nineteenth century, this quaint, charming town's German heritage continues to play an important role in the local culture. The town is full of bed and breakfasts, which only enhance the charming atmosphere.

Many of the buildings from the German settlers still stand, featuring two storey balconies, Victorian gingerbread house trim, and German fachwerk, giving the town a historical European feel. At the centre of town, history is kept alive by the Pioneer Museum, which features historical buildings and artifacts.

Fine German bakeries, restaurants, and fudge can be found in Fredericksburg, and every year, the town puts on a huge Oktoberfest celebration. Strudel, schnitzel, and beer from the local brewery are mainstays. Of course, there is also an abundance of Tex Mex cuisine.

The main street is lined with dozens of unique specialty shops and boutiques, featuring arts and crafts, jewelry, antiques, local souvenirs, western wear and more. Fredericksburg is a destination anyone visiting Hill Country will want to spend some time exploring.
